Poplar Drive Dive

The Poplar Drive DIVE. Let’s go on a renovation journey.

I felt like Superwoman after the Taranaki flip. Nothing could stop me now! So I cut my timelines in half! Why? I don’t know — the Poplar Drive Dive ended up taking even longer than the 18 weeks Taranaki did. Yes, structural problems were a big part of that, but some lessons also need repeating before they really hit home!

The biggest takeaway for me with Poplar Drive was structure. No, not framing and foundations. But working 9 to 5. Taking days off. Spending time with my family. Structure and balance helped get me through this flip and come out the other side with a huge sense of accomplishment.

Let’s look at what we were working with…

Meet your team!

With this flip, I learned I didn’t need to prove myself to anyone. Doing it all solo once before was proof enough for me, so I allowed myself to hire out the bits of carpentry that I don’t necessarily love to do. Framing and drywalling are great and all, but I’m all about the aesthetics — the furniture, the painting, the finishing touches.

Having a team behind me was such an incredible relief. Crazy-talented, professional people like Andrew Stephens helped me bounce back from lows points in the project, and keep me focused when I wanted to do all the things. Like I say in my bio, you’re the sum of the people you surround yourself with, and I’m glad to have someone like Andrew standing close by.
